Studio Monograph

Practice in print and cadence

Documenting twelve years of independent design direction, institutional publications, and material observations from the London studio.

Biographical Note

A deliberate studio practice

Trained in classical typography and bookbinding at Central Saint Martins, Julian established an independent practice focused on limited-edition art monographs and cultural identities. Each project prioritises restraint, tactile substrate selection, and rigorous typographic structure over rapid commercial cycles.

Operating between London and international commissions, the studio maintains an unhurried archive of published volumes, exhibition catalogs, and critical texts on material culture.

Archival Research

Structural Prototyping

Tactile Proofing

Every commission starts with deep physical research into historical specimen sheets, binding traditions, and institutional records to establish conceptual foundations.

Page grids, typographic proportions, and spatial pacing are tested through full-scale blank dummies and bespoke paper weights before digital layout.

Final production proceeds alongside artisanal press houses, verifying ink absorption, deboss depths, and binding durability under natural exhibition lighting.
